Wednesday, November 18

Headed into Cabris this morning I’m looking forward to the market. Since we went last Friday and found out it was actually on Wednesdays. So we arrive on to one of the main streets heading into the town and there is a grass field on the right. I notice about 4 stands set up on the grass, really? Yes really! It was 4 stands that made up the market. A lady selling smoked meat, 2 produce tents and a man selling cheese and deli type meats as well as some sauces, which is all great. We buys some meat and produce however I’m looking for some artisan crafts etc to bring home and am not finding it.

We get back home and the kids are outside playing, Justin brings up the website for this mini golf place in Antibes which isn’t too far a drive. Maybe 35 minutes. So we set off for there and arrive to what we think is the place. Park the car and approach the entrance since we saw the sliding door open a few feet, as we were parking the car. Well, it’s not open. Not only is it not open it looks like it hasn’t been open in a very looooong time.

Some of the holes have mud on them that is so thick and dried up that’s it’s crackled in to what looks like a desert path. We’re a little bummed because the website said it was open and we made the drive out there. Well, I notice some putters at the entrance of the building, inside Justin finds a milk crate with some balls in it. We decide to head out onto the course to salvage something of our outing. We play a few holes, natural obstacles and all, then notice an area where it is raised.

So we play those holes as they’re a bit less trashed. As we near the end of the holes we said we’d play we hear some people below. It turns out the guys outside the building that were sitting having lunch at the benches are the clean up crew. The damage is from the rain that the Nice and Antibes coastal area received back in late September or early October. So now Shelby is panicking, she doesn’t deal well with any rule breaking. She doesn’t even want to hold her putter, as if that will make her look less guilty. I tell her not to worry, it’s no big deal, then I realize that I’m actually condoning trespassing to my 10 year old daughter. Max could care less, he just wants to keep playing. We head down from the last hole, approach the nearest guy and say hello. We tell him the website says it was still open and we drove out to play (like that justifies us being there), I ask if the damage was from the rain that occurred a couple months ago, he smiles and says yes, and that it was very bad. We thank him for letting us play a few holes and we quickly go on our way.

Pop into Antibes for a snack and some walking around. It is Wednesday and for some reason some stores are closed. Again it is really hard to predict what is open when and of course throw in the afternoon 3-4 lunch break then it’s just dumb luck if you hit smaller towns when things are open. Quick toodle and we set off for home.
